Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses

Toni has been nursing for 30 years and a Nurse Practitioner since 2013. She specialises in Diabetes management and transgender healthcare using the informed consent model for 18+. She is committed to providing respectful healthcare for all and was a 2023 finalist for the Health Ministers trailblazer award.

Toni brings deep compassion and powerful desire to see all people, regardless of their circumstances, access high quality health care.

After completing her nursing degree at the University of South Australia in 1993 she then pursued a Grad. certificate in Diabetes management in 2008 and a Master of Nurse Practitioner in 2013. She is currently studying a Grad. cert in mental health and a Master of Health and Clinical Research.

Toni provides healthcare to people with Diabetes and transgender and gender diverse healthcare. In 2023, she was a finalist for the Health Ministers Trailblazer award for her work in Transgender healthcare.Toni is a Senior Lecturer and endorsed Nurse Practitioner at the University of South Australia Clinical and Health Sciences. She is Co- Chair of the International Council of Nurses (ICN) NP education subgroup. Toni is also on the NP committee of the Australian Nursing and Membership Committee Council (ANMAC) and is a member of the Australian NP academics collaborative (ANPAC) and  ACNP committee member

Daniela Nash is a Nurse Practitioner and Credentialled Diabetes Educator.

She is the ADEA Chair for South Australia and has completed her Masters of Nurse Practitioner at Flinders University. Daniela was awarded 2023 CDE of the Year in SA.

Daniela works in private practice. She has a passion to teach diabetes self-management to people living with diabetes and mentoring new diabetes educators.

Registered Nurse (B.Ed, CCRN, Grad Dip (Intensive Care), MNg, PhD.)

Sue Sharrad has over 40 years’ experience in nursing, working in a variety of settings and in a variety of roles. Her clinical area of speciality includes Parkinson’s disease Nursing.

Sue has also over 10 years’ experience working in an academic setting being involved in the education of both undergraduate and post graduate students. She has published in peer reviewed journals, supervised Masters students to completion and is the co-supervisor of two PhD students.

Additionally, as part of her academic role at the University Sue recently initiated the first Nurse-led Parkinson’s disease clinic in the University health services.

Sue’s research interests are motivated by improving the lives of people who live in regional areas of Australia. Thus, she was the chief investigator on the following grant funded projects; ‘Investigation and development of a regional stroke coordinator role for South Australia’ and ‘Understanding the management of Parkinson’s disease in rural, regional and remote South Australia’ in which she is working with an interdisciplinary team at the University of South Australia to initiate the first regional interdisciplinary clinic for people living with Parkinson’s disease in South Australia.

Sue is a member of the Australasian Neuroscience Nurses Association, a member of the South Australian Department of Health and Wellbeing’s Human Research Ethics Committee and the Hospital Research Foundation’s Clinical Governance Committee.

Brittany has been with the clinic since 2017 and enjoys the variety of different health and health care needs that general practice has to offer.

In her free time she enjoys playing sport and spending time with her family and friends.

The educational approach to Diabetes is to improve knowledge and information for the best self-care skills, including awareness of when to seek extra support from the Diabetes Health team.  The topics covered are around life with diabetes from newly diagnosed to commencing glucose monitoring, healthy living, appropriate food choices and the benefits of daily exercise to commencing various injectable medications and the ups and downs of glucose and how to manage it.

Viju Vyas is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator with a strong clinical foundation in nursing and specialised expertise in diabetes management. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Flinders University in 2017 and further advanced her qualifications by completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetes Management and Education in 2020. This additional training has enabled her to broaden her clinical knowledge and deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care to individuals living with diabetes.

With over six years of experience across allied health settings and the broader community, Viju is committed to improving health outcomes through patient-centred education and support.

Viju offers tailored education and support for individuals with pre-diabetes, Type 1 diabetes, and Type 2 diabetes. She also provides the convenience of home visits where required. In addition, eligible clients can access a complimentary trial of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) using the Libre2 system, supporting more effective and informed diabetes management.

Her approach combines clinical expertise with compassionate care, empowering individuals to confidently manage their condition and achieve better health outcomes.
